Singer and composer Batyrkhan Shukenov has been a household name in Russia for almost 20 years, first as vocalist for the band A-Studio, and now as a solo musician and singer. He has made it a principle to work with the best quality recording equipment, and to this end he has purchased a DPA 4041-T2 large diaphragm, omnidirectional microphone with MMP4000-T2 Tube Preamplifier from local distributor ISPA.
“It’s extremely important for me that DPA microphones are handcrafted in Denmark,” says Shukenov. “I first encountered Danish recording gear in 1992 when, together with A-Studio, I recorded at Greg Walsh’s home studio in London. Since then I’ve been convinced that audio equipment produced in Denmark is of the highest quality.
Apart from the accuracy and dynamic range of the DPA 4041-T2, Shukenov is enjoying another characteristic of the mic: what he calls the “…almost supernatural purity and transparency it allows the vocals. There is no distortion at all; it really sounds like there is no microphone – just my vocal. The sound quality surpassed all expectations – I’ve never heard a microphone like this, ever.”
Although Shukenov already has a wide range of microphones, including classic and rare models, at his studio in Alma Ata, he decided the 4041-T2 was exactly what was missing.
“The DPA 4041-T2 is the right microphone to accentuate the vocal timbre required in my songs,” he explains. “It can be a big problem to capture the original vocal and all its characteristics in the mix. I’m sure the 4041-T2 will add a new dimension to my recordings.”
