DPA's German distributor Mega Audio has supplied Cologne-based a cappella band the Wise Guys with five DPA 4088 cardioid headband mics
"As we only use our voices and the mics are our only 'instrument', we've had a lot of feedback problems in the past," says, Marc Sahr (Sari) of the Wise Guys, who have been singing together since they met at school. "The 4088s have sorted this. They also stay in place during our more energetic routines."
Performing in venues ranging from small theatres right through to outdoor festivals before 70,000 people, the Wise Guys have honed their talent into a body of original songs which draw on a broad spectrum of genres, from jazz, reggae, rap, hip hop through to rock and even techno, combining witty lyrics with excellent all-round performances. Their voices range from tenor to baritone and the lead can be sung by any one of them. Drumming can even be imitated when a pop sound is required.
Underlining the band's popularity, their latest album, Frei, recently made it to number two in the German charts. "We're probably the only a cappella band to get this high in the album charts," admits Sahr. The Wise Guys have an extremely loyal fan base, so concerts inevitably feature plenty of crowd participation, another reason why the cardioids are the best choice.
