DPA Microphones' d:fine™ Wins Live Design Product of the Year Award

Christian Poulsen, DPA Microphones CEO, accepts the award, presented by Ellen Lampert-Greaux.DPA Microphones’ d:fine™ headset microphone was recognized as one of Live Design magazine’s Sound Products of the Year at an awards ceremony held during the Live Design Broadway Sound Master Classes (BSMC) on Saturday, May 19, in New York. Each year, Live Design’s panel of professional sound designers chooses an exclusive group of products as technical innovations for live production from among hundreds of new live-audio offerings.

Christian Poulsen, DPA Microphones CEO, attended the ceremony to accept the award on behalf of everyone at the company. “We are very pleased that our innovative new d:fine headset microphones have been recognized by Live Design as a Sound Product of the Year,” he says. “Our team of engineers have worked very hard to create a one-of-a-kind, handmade product that suits the needs of live sound engineers and performers alike, and we are glad to see that these efforts have not gone unnoticed.”

Designed to meet the needs of active live theater, concerts and presentations, the d:fine microphones have set the benchmark for headset microphones, with their no-compromises approach to sound, size and design. The tiny, unobtrusive d:fine capsule provides a highly detailed signal and its comfortable yet snug ear mount features low sensitivity to wind and background noise, while delivering the world-class sound quality expected of a DPA microphone.

While the d:fine capsule delivers the sound, through a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20kHz ± 2dB and a maximum peak handling capacity of 144 dB before clipping, the microphone isn’t hardwired into the headset, so the cable can be replaced easily and inexpensively. For users looking for the perfect headset, the d:fine is available in both directional and omnidirectional options, in single- or dual-ear designs, with long or short microphone booms and in black, brown and beige, in addition to the company’s distinctive lime green color. Each solution performs spectacularly in either a cabled or wireless setting.

Live Design’s prestigious BSMC was held on Saturday and Sunday, May 19-20, at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. See a full list of this year’s winners. a
