Lavalier mics for film

6060 Series Subminiature Lavalier

At just 3 mm (0.12 in) these mics can be hidden in even the most revealing costumes making them an obvious choice for film sets. What they lack in size, they more than make up for in clarity, consistency and durability – three qualities that really matter when capturing sound for the big screen. By shrinking CORE by DPA technology, we ensure you don't have to compromise on sound to focus on aesthetics.

Sonic consistency

Whatever the situation, it is easier to work with microphones that, when being mixed together, have similar audio characteristics (what we call sonic consistency). From omindirectional to supercardioid, shotguns to lavaliers, listen to a range of DPA mics and hear how similar they sound, regardless of their size, placement or polar pattern.

Plant mics

Whether you're miking in a car or in other close quarters, a 4097 CORE Shotgun Microphone is a valuable and unique solution. With its small footprint and clear audio pick up, this mic can be quickly mounted in even the tightest spaces (like packed away above a car's sun visor, clipped to the dashboard or attached under a table).

The 4097 CORE Shotgun Microphone is designed with specific feedback from professional film sound engineers in order to supplement their available toolbox of microphone solutions. When used in combination with DPA boom mics and bodyworn lavaliers, a full package of high-quality mics for any film production's needs.

Theis mic has the perfect match between size and sound quality. It is tailored to film sound engineers' needs, as the mic head turns in the right direction and is easily mounted inconspicuous on a small transmitter via one of our appropriate DAD adapters. This makes it extremely fast to mount and direct towards the talent. With its built-in shock mount, the mic is the only solution of its kind with this small form factor. The high rejection, well-known off-axis response and natural sound, makes it easy to blend the signal of the 4097 Plant Mic with other signals during postproduction.

Body mics for filming

Bodyworn microphones can be tremendously useful in many filming situations: noisy environments, wide shots, very reverberant spaces, tight spaces and more.

With bodyworn miniature mics you can capture the best possible sound, while at the same time completely concealing the microphone. These mics allow you to ensure repeatable, superior sound quality, unseen by the audience. They come in a range of variants, including the virtually invisible Slim Series, which can meet your special concealment needs.

“When I first heard DPA's 4061 and 4071 microphones, the sound was so transparent and natural that I felt it could be cut with the boom without any uncomfortable shift in the timbre of the voice. Of course, we still need booms but we can now mix and match between the two depending on the requirements of the scene."

Academy-honored miniatures

In 2021, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Board of Governors bestowed a Technical Achievement Award to DPA miniature microphones. The award is directed specifically to Jens-Jørn Stokholm and Ole Moesmann for the innovative development of high-performance miniature and subminiature DPA lavalier microphones.

Boom mics for filmmaking

A properly boomed actor sounds very natural to the ear. Boom microphones are a staple in most film sound engineers arsenal of tools.

The 4017B Shotgun Microphone has a hypercardioid pickup pattern  designed with a unique interference tube that provides excellent off-axis rejection.  This unique directional pattern is useful when you need high directivity with high background noise rejection.  Rejection of background noise is needed when you cannot place the mic close to the sound source. The even shorter 4018C Supercardioid Microphone, Compact has a highly-directional supercardioid pickup pattern with a smooth and uniform off-axis frequency response. It is designed for use in film miking applications where space is limited. Like interior car scenes placed in the sun visor.
