DPA CASE STUDY - MIXING LATIN AMERICAN SUPERSTAR J BALVIN

j-balvin-1-l.jpg
The Client: John Buitrago, Live & Studio Sound Engineer, FOH for J Balvin
The Project:
Mixing on tour for Latin American Superstar and Grammy® Winner, J Balvin.

The Issues to Overcome:
J Balvin’s music is electronic, yet it is very rich in the low end where the beat is an essential and identifiable part of the rhythm. It's mixed with some sweet melodies and harmonic effects intertwining a vocal presence within the musical structure. Additionally, when he is live, the band complements this musical foundation.

When mixing, the challenge for Buitrago is maintaining balance between the final studio production and the live elements of the band on tour, especially the drums. The drummer is part of the rhythm that is essential to Balvin, but should not disturb the sound spectrum that allows the public to immediately identify the song. So how does Buitrago find the space for a kick, snare and toms? The answer is: DPA Microphones.
