What is "Electret Microphone"?

Electret Microphone

A condenser microphone with a permanently charged membrane or permanently charged back electrode. An external voltage is only needed for the built-in electronics, which are there to provide a suitable low impedance for connecting to the surrounding world.

The electret microphone was invented by James E. West and patented in 1961.
