I am encouraging my UK rental companies of choice including RG Jones and SFL to invest in more DPA whenever they can.

Career highlights

After training at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Phil spent the early part of his career working at Sound By Design Ltd, during which time he handled the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in-house sound contract. From 2000-2012 Phil also managed the Sound By Design team handling the BBC Proms live sound requirements.

In 2012 Phil went freelance and “Phil Wright Sound Limited” was founded. In this new role Phil has continued to work with artistes, producers and companies of repute to produce award winning productions around the globe.

In addition to live concert work Phil undertakes a significant amount of both pre and post-production in his studio in Surrey, UK. Works undertaken include mixing live show recordings of Verdi “Requiem” for the Royal Opera House (CD) & Monty Python’s “He’s not the Messiah!” (DVD, Cinema), and Katherine Jenkin’s performance for the forthcoming feature film “Dreamhorse” (Cinema). Phil also works with various artists providing carry-in recording and broadcast setups for radio & TV.

Phil is also heavily involved in the preparation of many of the shows he works on, including building the show playback files for concerts including Ministry of Sound “Classical” and his current project which is “Joker in concert” for Senbla Live Events. Liaising with both Warner Bros studios and the original composing / arranging team Phil is building the audio files and the cue file for the conductor to enable this project to be performed in sync with a live orchestra. Like many of his projects, this continuity from the preparation to the live performance of the works brings a unique knowledge of the live show.

Keen to keep at the cutting edge of audio technology, Phil has been working with a number of high end immersive and live streaming companies during 2020 & 2021 to help artists, promoters and venues develop next generation content both in terms of live events and studio projects. This has culminated in the development of a Dolby Atmos mix studio with Immersive Specialists Sonosphere at Metropolis Studios, London.

Phil works closely with a number of manufacturers, distributors and sound rental companies of repute collaborating on product development and design. Phil also spends time teaching the next generation of audio engineers on the Theatre Technology course at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and through the Association of Sound Designers & Audio Engineering Society.
