I love for microphones that deliver a clear, undistorted acoustic image, no matter how complex the impulses are, the membrane has to handle. I want to receive the acoustic signal exactly as it is. When this level of sound quality is combined with great usability and form factor, it’s a perfect match.
The DPA 2015 is one of my all-time favorites. It’s extremely natural-sounding, with an unbeatable dynamic range and impressively low noise floor. It responds beautifully to transients, making it ideal for my INA (Ideale Nieren Anordnung) setups to AB or OCCO arrays.
I also use it in live situations—especially for reeds and woodwinds—where I need to capture complex instruments a bit closer while still keeping a wide enough angle to preserve their full sound.
