Sound Engineer and Designer

Silas Bieri is a sound engineer and sound designer based in Malmö, Sweden, with over 25 years of international experience. He works at the intersection of art and technology, balancing creative vision with deep technical expertise. His work includes everything from Foley and post-production to large-scale live sound and studio mixing. Silas is also the founder of in-discourse studios and teaches regularly at universities across Europe.

I love for microphones that deliver a clear, undistorted acoustic image, no matter how complex the impulses are, the membrane has to handle. I want to receive the acoustic signal exactly as it is. When this level of sound quality is combined with great usability and form factor, it’s a perfect match.

The DPA 2015 is one of my all-time favorites. It’s extremely natural-sounding, with an unbeatable dynamic range and impressively low noise floor. It responds beautifully to transients, making it ideal for my INA (Ideale Nieren Anordnung) setups to AB or OCCO arrays.

I also use it in live situations—especially for reeds and woodwinds—where I need to capture complex instruments a bit closer while still keeping a wide enough angle to preserve their full sound.
