Academy curve

A historic equalization curve for use in cinemas. It was established by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1938. The curve was characterized by its reduction of higher frequencies, done to avoid crackling noise, which usually occurred during the reproduction of optical soundtracks. The curve was also called the N-curve (N for Normal). See also X-curve.
