A measurement of how many bits of data are recorded or streamed per second. In linear digital audio this number can be calculated from the number of bits per sample multiplied by the sampling frequency, multiplied by the number of channels. Example: 24 bit per sample, 48 kHz sampling frequency, 2 channels: The bitrate is 24*48,000*2 = 2,304,000 bits per second (bps), or 2,304 kilobits per second (kbps).
